Built in Compass

For those who are big on navigating, there is a compass built into the new 3GS. The old iPhones had compass features via third party apps but those only worked if the iPhone was in motion. This new compass allows for all sorts of smart extras, such as a map that can give even better directions than before. The compass also happens to be the only icon that comes native to the iPhone 3GS that isn’t on any other iPhone.

Voice control

The last of the “Where the heck was this before?” features is the iPhone 3GS’s voice control. Again, Apple outdid themselves with this one. While other phones can do this, the iPhone 3GS does it really well: with simple voice commands you can not only command the phone to call people from your list, or numbers spoken out loud, but it can also play music based on voice commands as well.

And all the rest

There are a lot of other great features that the iPhone 3GS has to offer, but most of the new ones are accessible on older iPhones if the OS is upgraded. These include things like cut and paste and Spotlight Search. It’s all those other things though, that are making people drool over the new phone.
